RE: reapers sound problems lol
Right click on My Computer, select properties. Then in the window that appears click on the Device Manager tab. Click on the plus sign beside 'Sound, video, and game controllers'. for every item that appears under 'Sound Video and game controllers' select it and click on remove. You will get a dialog box asking you if you are sure if you want to remove that device, just click OK.

Reboot your system. If it's a hardware audio card you will get a notification saying "New Hardware Found" and it should automatically reinstall new drivers for it from the internet. If it's an on-board audio card then if it doesn't auto detect the missing drivers, try running Windows Update again.

What comes up when you right click any of the items under "Sound, video, and game controllers?"

For example, your Legacy Audio driver? Does it have the option to update or rollback?

Seems to me that something didn't install right when you installed Windows, like a missing registry key or driver file.

all of them say update driver, scan for hardware changes, and properties. i tried updating all of them and it said i was missing something. unimodem half duplex audio device also has a disable and uninstall option
i just tried updating again to see what the error was... it just said it couldnt find a better match than what i already have. all of them said that

I'm doing a little research on the issue.

How comfortable are you opening your case up to look inside? Most standard cases have a couple a screws on the back.

I want to know for sure if you have a dedicated sound card or if it's built into the motherboard.
